Turbulence in Parliament! October 24 Lankatruth: There was pandemonium in the Parliament today when Mr. Sunil Handunetti, MP from JVP brought a motion at adjournment. Mr. Handunetti?s motion said that since the incidents that took place in the Eastern Province have jeopardized the National Defence and Sovereignty of the country this assembly should request the President to mediate at this juncture to check this situation. The Members of TNA protested and created an apprehensive situation in the Parliament. When ?Lankatruth? inquired about this from Mr. Handunetti, he said, ?when I forwarded the motion, 30 minutes time was allocated to present facts on behalf of the motion. But the TNA Members requested 10 minutes from that time to speak against it. We refused as at a time like this it?s not as the government and the Opposition that the times are allocated. It?s done for the motion and against the motion. That?s why we objected. At this point the TNA, who are really lackeys of the LTTE aimed death threats at us and walked out of the House. The DeputyChairman of committees intentionally avoided settling this. TNA Members didn?t allow me to present the motion nor did they allow Comrade Wimal Weerawanse to second it.
