PA against privatisation UNF in a sorry mess now - Mahinda October 28 Island: The United National Front conspired to bring down the People's Alliance government in October last year, and it has backfired on them this year, said Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapakse at a meeting of the People's Alliance activists at the Ussapitiya auditorium. He further said that with the Supreme Court order on the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, the hands of the President were strengthened. Therefore, the dissolving of parliament could be within two months or two years. He added that political prisoners in the south were not granted bail but prisoners in the north were granted bail. The government is now caught up in a collision course with SLMC rebels. Thondaman is another headache to the government. People's Alliance has a policy not to privatise health, banks, insurance, transport etc. which are of prime importance. The Opposition, therefore, had organised protests against the government's policy to privatise these organisations, he said. (27/10/02 go2lanka.com) |
