EASTERN PROVINCE SINHALESE CHARGE NONE OF COMPLAINTS AGAINST TIGER WRONGS BY SINHALESE TAKEN UP BY NORWAY BACKED SLMM

By Walter Jayawardhana reporting from Los Angeles

August 01.03.40 AM:The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) was either partial to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) or did not take any interest in complaints made against the Tamil rebel group charged the Eastern Province Sinhala Organization in an meeting with the SLMM Trincomalee office.

The Sinhala Organization President, Venerable Dehiowita Piyatissa Thero told the SLMM Trincomalee office the SLMM had been silent over injustices done to the Sinhalese by the LTTE and either the Scandinavian Monitors were neglectful of their duties or partial to the Tamil Tigers.

The Venerable monk representing the Sinhalese in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka said, there were many instances that injustices done by the LTTE against the Sinhalese had not been inquired into by the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission.

The Trincomalee office of the SLMM said they would like to receive a list of complaints against the Tamil rebel group and promised to inquire about any violation of the Ceasefire agreement by the Tamil rebel group.

The Eastern Province Sinhala Organization said though such complaints had been made in the past the organization would re-submit a list of complaints to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission

The venerable Piyatissa said he expected the SLMM to bring enough pressure to release the Sinhalese civilians the Tamil rebel group had so far abducted.

He said the LTTE was unable to commit such atrocities to any section of the society or impose an arbitrary rule on any section of the Tamil society under the Ceasefire agreement and that was exactly what they were continuing to do.
