The decision of the Ranil Wickremesinghe administration to de-ban the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam would legitimize all the illegal activities of extortion and child abductions conducted by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam at the present time against the people of the Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka charged the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna Member of Parliament Anura Kumara Dissanayaka speaking on the occasion of their party rally against the UNF government at the Fort Railway Station. The opposition parliamentarian told an interviewer of the BBC’s Sandeshaya , the Sinhala language program, that Ranil Wickramasinghe would make all the illegally established Eelam Police , Eelam courts, and Eelam Bank legitimate institutions of the government by his short-sighted act of de-banning the world’s most ferocious terrorist group. He said the Fascist group which had over-burdened the common people of the East and the North by illegal taxes had been justified and their extortion of the people had been okayed by the Ranil Wickremesinghe administration by the proposed act. The JVP parliamentarian argued that it was wrong to say that Ranil Wickremesinghe administration received a mandate from the people to grant an interim administration to the LTTE or lift the proscription of the terrorist group. In fact, he said he received a mandate not to do any one of those acts. He said both he and his spokesman Minister W.J.M. Lokubandara had repeatedly told meetings and television debates that the UNF government would definitely not lift the proscription of the terrorist group. Anura kumara Dissanayaka said until the LTTE gave up arms and their demand for a separate state they should not be de-banned. When the Sandeshaya interviewer questioned whether the JVP gave up its arms when they decided to enter democratic politics Dissanayaka told the interviewer that he asked that question since he did not have a correct knowledge about Sri Lankan politics. He said both of those organizations could not be compared at all. He said the JVP had to sacrifice thousands to protect the country’s democracy and the LTTE was constantly organizing to create a Fascist separate state in Sri Lanka. This government and some henchmen journalists of the government would love to compare the JVP and the LTTE. He concluded by saying that only a mad man would try to compare those two organizations.
