The government of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will give in to the demands of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam by making immediate preparations in granting bail to the two arrested cadres of the rebel group in order to get freedom for the six soldiers still being kept captives by them. The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission representatives who visited the captured soldiers in a make shift camp by the Tamil Tigers said the Sri Lanka Army soldiers taken into custody by the LTTE while they were collecting sand in to an army truck for maintenance work in their camp were keeping well and gave letters to be handed over to their next of kin . Initially seven soldiers were kidnapped but one was later released on humanitarian grounds. Meanwhile the relatives of the kidnapped soldiers threatened to start a fast as a protest to draw attention to the plight of them. More than a week ago the Sri lanka Army soldiers of the Wilgam Vehera army camps were kidnapped by an armed gang of LTTE cadres and the rebel group later said until two cadres of them arrested by the Police for possessing arms and arrested by the government controlled areas should be immediately release. The army soldiers , in retaliation , were taken prisoners in a no man's land. Pime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in a MOU signed with Velupillai Prabhakaran defined government controlled areas and LTTE controlled areas of the Northern and Eastern provinces. ICRC representatives accompanied SLMM representatives when they visited the captive soldiers at a makeshift camp , about an hours trip away in the jungle , from Kamburupiddi near Trincomalee. Sri Lanka Monitoring mission spokesman said such incidents could be avoided by clearly defining the borders of the government and LTTE controlled areas. (EOM) (05/10/02 go2lanka.com) |
