The Akkaraipattu area in the Eastern province despite a curfew imposed by the Police remained tense after a young Muslim man was allegedly kidnapped by the terrorist group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. The curfew which would end in the morning of October 17 was imposed to avoid a LTTE-Muslim ethnic clash as happened few month ago ending the lives of more than 20 Muslims allegedly at the hand of the Tamil Tigers. Opposition commentators said the alleged kidnapping of the Muslim youth by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam once again showed to the world that there was lack of security for the Sinhalese and the Muslims in the Eastern Province under the so called peace plan of the Ranil Wickremesinghe administration. The young man, Seeni Mohamed Abul Bujet was kidnapped by LTTE kidnappers who came in a license plate less white van and taken to Malai Adi Wembu, an area determined by the MOU signed between Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran as a LTTE controlled area. The area is so restricted to the Tamil Tigers , no other armed group or government troops could enter that area , the kidnapped man’s brother Ajmeer told reporters. Under the MOU government troops or police cannot enter the LTTE controlled areas when the rebel group commits crimes. Thousands of minors had been kidnapped by the terrorist group even from the government controlled areas but the children remained at the mercy of the terrorist group without any protection of the law of the country, human rights groups have alleged. The area political leader of the terrorist group, Bawa denied of having kidnapped the Muslim youth. But it is customary for the group to deny any crime committed by them. The Inspector of Police Jayaratne Rathnayaka said he had informed the LTTE leaders in Kokadicholai and Bawa of the incident but both parties had denied any connection. But the Police cannot enter the LTTE areas for investigations under the strict orders of the Ranil Wickremesinghe government. The Norway controlled Sri lanka Monitoring Mission that oversees the ceasefire between the government has been informed of the incident by the Police. But in the past in such kidnappings they were of little help. (EOM) (02/10/17 go2lanka.com) |
