The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna appealed to the Muslim people of the island nation to consider that the solutions to their problems were found only in a unitary Sri Lanka . The party appealed to the Muslims to join with them to defeat what it called the program of the Ranil Wickremesinghe administration to divide the country and reminded them that their rights could not be protected by fighting for a separate Muslim administrative unit, at a well attended public rally at Hyde Park , Colombo.. The country’s second largest opposition political party said that Muslims had never requested a separate administrative unit for themselves before. A justified fear in them for sheer existence after the North and East was handed over to Prabhakaran led them to demand a separate administrative entity, the General secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva pointed out. He said by giving over the North and East to Prabhakaran the country was divided not to two but three parts now. Silva insisted that Ranil Wickremesinghe was responsible for the unpardonable mess in the country. General Secretary of the JVP, Tilvin Silva addressing the Hyde Park rally of the party in Colombo said this was not the first time their party held a rally to protest against the ten-month old administration of Ranil Wickremesinghe. He said when the UNP entered in to secret pacts with the LTTE, when the LTTE ban was lifted, when national assets were being sold to foreigners and when the free education system of the country was being betrayed the JVP was always there to voice their opposition to the anti-people measures of Ranil Wickremesinghe. But all protests fell on his deaf ears, Tilvin Silva charged. He said the Ranil Wickremesinghe administration followed a policy of de-banning the terrorist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and banning the activities of all other non-terrorist parties through sinister undemocratic measures.
If the Ranil Wickremesinghe government was not ready to listen to the voice of the people it was high time the people ordered them down from the throne, Tilvin Silva proposed. The JVP was ready to give leadership to the people to send this treacherous government home, a regime that was formed with unholy alliances and secret pacts with terrorists, he assured. He said the Ranil Wickremesinghe administration was formed due to the addition of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress to the coalition, but today it was in a sorry plight unable to find 113 votes in the parliament. Though the government was boasting they would bring an unprecedented confidence motion in the government it had been conveniently forgotten. Though the government was tottering it did not neglect to proceed to implement the division of the country. That was why this government should be defeated the JVP leader insisted. The government promised it would bring down the cost of living, supply jobs to the large mass of unemployed people, pay a dole of 2000 Rupees to the jobless, develop the country, increase business, and make the ordinary man’s pockets full of money. The UNF government of Ranil Wickremesinghe miserably failed in all those. But with the connivance of the mass media in the country the Ranil Wickremesinghe government stopped the people know all facts. He said a mass media that exaggerated even minor grievances before the election had completely blacked out all-important news and was engaged in performing a media carnival. Today the people were kept in darkness about true things happening in Sri Lanka. They did not know about the real facts of the so-called peace or the closure of factories in the country. They were only showing minor performances of the jesters taking part in the highly dramatized and exaggerated Peace Dramas, Tilvin Silva charged. He said Ranil’s media carnival has hypnotized the masses and deceived them. He said the government faced the election following a secret pact with the LTTE. That was followed by a ceasefire. Although they were talking about the mythical peace the LTTE actually attacked the STF to drive out the security force from the Eastern province. The LTTE was engaged in a hartal openly flouting the law. But the government imposed bans on various activities of other political parties. He said what the LTTE could not obtain during twenty years of fighting they obtained during the ten months old Ranil Wickremesinghe regime. The secretary of the second largest opposition party in the country charged that speedily, a background suitable for a separate state was being created in Sri Lanka. The JVP accepted Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister of the country until the people took him out of the throne. But the worry was that there was another Prime Minister called Prabhakaran in another part of the country. He held a large number of soldiers. Releasing only seven of them the others were engaged in free work for him. When the seven were freed Ranil freed 13 of the LTTE. But immediately after that LTTE arrested ,as ransom, seven soldiers to get the release of two LTTE cadres who were caught dangerously armed and were in remand custody. They could not be released under bail. But making a mockery of law, Ranil Wickremesinghe released them, Tilvin Silva charged. “ Balasingham”, said Tilvin Silva, “declared that they have already obtained the interim administration. Not only that Prabhakaran was building up a separate state he made sure it was a Fascist state where no other political party was tolerated. The other political parties had been denied the right to exist in the areas under the control of the LTTE. Ranil Wickremesinghe was responsible to the whole nation on this great betrayal.” The Information Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, Wimal Weerawansa told the Hyde Park meeting that this time Anton Balasingham entered the country through the very airport attacked by his terrorists one year ago. Balasingham also visited the security camp also attacked by the terrorists. “I could not tell,” said Weerawansa, “from what mouth Balasingham laughed sarcastically at our country”. During the last elections Somawansa of the JVP came to the country. Ranil’s media gangs were there at Katunayaka to ask him innumerable questions. But Weerawansa said when Balasingham arrived at Katunayaka there wasn’t a single reporter to ask the man a single question. But he was entering the country through the very airport destroyed by his terrorists. That was the sorry state of the media in the country. Weerawansa charged that Balasingham was dispatched to Wanni following a protocol fit for a Head of State with an attending military officer by the Ranil Wickremesinghe government. He said Suda Master came for the peace talks clad in LTTE military uniform. Though his speech was broadcast by the Rupavahini the tail end of the speech was missing. What he had said and was edited out was that the LTTE were not ready to give up Eelam. He said that the LTTE attempted to kill Chandrika Kumaratunga just because they wanted to put Ranil Wickremesinghe in to power. He said the LTTE was preparing ground to satisfy international standards to prove that the North and the East was occupied by a specific race. For that the LTTE wanted to chase out the Muslims under an ethnic cleansing program from Muttur Akkarapattu and Valaichchenai. They also wanted to remove the Kanchana Kudah STF camp for that purpose. He also said that the LTTE also wanted to get rid of the security camps in the high security zones. Under the ceasefire agreement Ranil has legally accepted that there were areas in Sri Lanka under the control of the LTTE. He said Ranil and the LTTE were acting as puppets of the imperialists. He said imperialists have already completed plans to divide Tamil Nadu from the rest of India. The purpose was to make India weak and for the imperialists to become the dominant power in South Asia. Weerawansa said, dividing Sri Lanka and take Trincomalee to their hand was extremely important for taking over South India. He said if we did not defeat this imperialist plan the whole South Asia would turn in to a butchers shop. Weerawansa attacked Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa for standing only on one foot. He was only hiding behind the slogans against privatization and pretending to be anti-government. Weerawansa said Mahinda Rajapaksa should stand on both feet and oppose not only the privatization but also oppose the imperialistic plan of dividing the country. President Chandrika Bandaranaike also should come forward more vigorously against the division of the country. (EOM) (02/10/20 go2lanka.com) |
