Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne, the leader of the New Left Front is so disappointed with the results of the second round of talks the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam held with the Ranil Wickremesinghe administration just concluded at the Rose Gardens Holiday Resort in Thailand he called it an unsuccessful meeting without any value to the Tamil people. The radical Marxist leader who has been calling the terrorist insurrection of the LTTE with all its usual trappings like suicide bombings a “liberation struggle of the Tamil people” over the years said the LTTE had been turned in to a set of obedient disciples of the government carrying begging bowels soliciting for international aid. The radical Marxist leader said many expected the second round of talks to establish a Joint Task Force which could lead its way to an Interim Administration with a pivotal role for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam but the second round of talks turned out to be a process wanted by foreign powers. He said it was doubtful it would satisfy the aspirations of the young Tamils who were fighting for a self-rule or the Tamil liberation struggle by attempting to obtain international aid alone. Wickramabahu Karunaratne said under a capitalist scheme it was the duty of the bosses to supply whatever money needed for reconstruction and resettlement but the Bangkok discussion established only two paltry subcommittees. One subcommittee was for the de-escalation of war. He said already the war had been stopped. He said further de-escalation meant only to disarm the LTTE. He said that would lead to many other problems among the Tamil youth in the future. He warned that by attempting to obtain foreign aid the LTTE would never achieve self-rule. Meanwhile speaking to the BBC’s Sinhala program, the Sandeshaya the leader of the Tamil National Alliance said if the LTTE had decided to give up the Interim Administration demand it should not become the problem of anybody else since that was their own demand. But the TNA leader said the LTTE had not withdrawn the demand by a statement. Asked to comment on Anton Balasingham’s statement that they would allow other political parties to function Sampanthan said multiparty democracy and human rights were things that should be naturally available for everybody and they were not rights anybody to grant someone else. But he said he would not call the EPDP a democratic party like theirs. But despite Sampanthan’ S statement EPDP represented by two elected Members of Parliament has been constantly persecuted by the LTTE and its members had been maimed and murdered constantly by the terrorist group.(EOM) (02/11/05 go2lanka.com) |
