THE INFILTRATED LTTE KILLERS INTO COLOMBO HAVE ALREADY STARTED WORK BY ASSASINATING PEOPLE, SAY POLICE SOURCES
By Walter Jayawardhana reporting from Los Angeles The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) had stationed hundreds of professionally trained marksmen and suicide bombers in the capital city of Colombo to destroy enemy targets and already they had begun work, police sources said. The sources said the recent assassination of “Sharma” alias Ganeshamoorthy Thilakaraj who was taking lodgings in a Colombo inn in the Bambalapitiya Police area was suspected to be committed by a LTTE gunman stationed in the capital city. Ganeshamoorthy Thilakaraj , a resident of Batticaloa two years ago was working for the LTTE intelligence unit and had quit. He had come to Colombo to obtain a visa to travel to Italy, the same sources said. He walked to a private phone booth to obtain a phone call. When his call was disrupted the man was waiting for the resumption of the line when he was approached by the suspected LTTE gunman and was shot, police investigations have revealed. As soon as the Ranil Wickremesinghe administration was voted in, the first step of the newly sworn in government was to remove the security barriers in the Colombo city. Police sources believe that was when the LTTE started stationing their gunmen and suicide bombers in the capital city. The security barriers in the Colombo city was removed according to a secret pre-election pact reached between the UNP and the LTTE in London, opposition parties have alleged. A pro-LTTE publication later revealed it was actually negotiated between Ranil Wickremesinghe’s special envoy Milinda Moragoda and LTTE theoretician Anton Balasingham in London. The latest issue of the Niyamuwa, the official organ of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna , in a front page news story quoting unnamed army intelligence sources said that the LTTE paraded the Black Tigers, the suicide bombers of the terrorist group on their last Heroes’ Day celebrations as a public threat to the people of the South. “They wanted to convey,” the newspaper quoting army intelligence sources said, “that they have not given up their suicide bombing tactics.” President Chandrika Kumaratunga addressing a Polonnaruwa meeting of the opposition Sri Lanka Freedom Party had alleged about 250 LTTE fighting cadres including suicide bombers had entered Colombo due to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe removing all checkpoints and road blocks in the capital city of Colombo. But a pro-UNF former Air Force Commander Air Vice Marshal Harry Goonatilake played down the danger of the infiltration of LTTE suicide bombers in to Colombo and said that was something that could not be avoided by the government. He said only a number between 25 to 50 suicide bombers trained by the LTTE had entered the city of Colombo He insisted that it could not be prevented by the Ranil Wickremesinghe government. Anyway in the midst of Colombo’s election victory euphoria the issue of the infiltration of the LTTE fighters in to the capital city was easily forgotten. The government has refused to do anything about it. (EOM) (02/12/14 go2lanka.com) |
