S.B.Disssanayaka to be brought before the Supreme Court on May 7

May 05, 09.15 PM:S.B. Dissanayaka , the brain of the UNP political strategies and controversial former cabinet Minister will be brought before the nation’s highest judiciary , the Supreme Court making him to show cause why he should not be punished for contempt of court.
A three panel judges of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva assisted by Justice Asoka de Silva and Justice Raja Fernando will hear the case against Dissanayaka beginning May 7.
The panel of judges was named by the Chief Justice, the Registrar of the Supreme Court, announced yesterday.
The notice demanding him to appear on May 7 has been already accepted by Dissanayaka , sources said.
He is expected to appear on that day the same sources said.
Dissanayaka has been charged that during a rice reaping festival or a Wap Mangula at Habaraduwa , in Southern Province , the UNP leader made a statement that he would not care verdicts given by the lowly Supreme Court before television cameras. Originally , three villagers present during the festival in a petition alleged that the former UNP minister spoke in contempt of the court. Later , the Supreme Court acting on the petition made its own investigation examining the video tapes before he was charged.
