If he ever falls ill he would prefer to be admitted for treatment to a government hospital where the majority of country’s common people go rather than to a private hospital said President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
“I have told my family that I would rather be cared in a government hospital than in a private one if I fell ill,” the Sri Lanka President said to the applause of more than 3000 nurses who assembled at the Temple Trees premises to celebrate the International Nurses Day organized by the Government Nurses Trade Union.
He said there are some people who prefer to go to private hospitals. But whenever they cannot be cured the government hospital is the place they run back to. That’s the reason, the President said why he had asked his family to admit him to the General Hospital if he fell ill, the President said.
Mahinda Rajapaksa said the public really appreciate the standards maintained by government hospitals.
The Sri Lankan President said the dedication of the nurses was vital for the success of the program mooted by the government to provide a good health service.
He said a strong moral sense has to be cultivated in the society by moulding the character of the younger generation to put the country before self.
He said sadly some do not possess the quality. To the honor of all the Indians, it should be said, they never abndon their flag despite their differences political or otherwise while they are abroad.
But some in Sri Lanka even attempt to stop aid to the motherland for their political benefits, the President charged.
In an obvious reference to the United national Party leader Ranil Wickramasinghe and his collaborators President Mahinda Rajapaksa said, “They have attempted to stop the GSP+ relief of the country while meeting foreign leaders personally. They have also signed memorandums to this effect. Despite these attempts the government will continue to fulfill its responsibilities towards the nation.”
