Ven. ELLE GUNAWANSA THERO CHARGES THAT BOTH JAPAN AND NORWAY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN ALTRUISTIC LOVE FOR SRILANKA

February 06, 09.15 PM: Venerable Elle Gunawansa Thero charged neither Japan nor Norway were offering to help Sri Lanka’s peace for the altruistic love of the nation and both nations would like to force a system on Sri Lanka that would help the business interests of them to succeed eventually.

Addressing the inaugural convention of the Patriotic National Movement (PNM) Venerable Elle Gunawansa Thero, a member of the Executive Founder Committee of the organization, charged that the Japan was offering loans to Sri Lanka, to induce the government to accept some LTTE proposals that would eventually break up the nation

He accused Japan of getting involved in that so called peace not for the love of Sri Lanka but to make this land a fertile ground for its varied businesses.

Pointing an accusing finger at Norway, the strongly nationalist monk said that the Nordic nation who had excelled in its fisheries industries would prefer the LTTE to have 60 per cent of Sri Lanka’s coastline since they could very much enjoy the warm water fishing industry in collaboration with the LTTE.

He said none of these nations were interested in altruistic love for the island nation of Sri Lanka and the PNM was being organized as an umbrella for various members of different political parties to save the ancient nation of Sri Lanka from cultural and economic imperialism of the West.

Addressing a very well attended convention held at the National Youth Center Auditorium at Maharagama presided over by Weligama Gnanaratana Maha Thero, the Sangha Nayaka of the Sri Dhammarakshitha Sect of the Amaraputa Sangha Sabha, Venerable Elle Gunawansa Thero said various politicians of the different political parties were opening their eyes to the impending danger and expressing their strong willingness to join the PNM. The Venerable Gunawansa said that recently three Members of Parliament of the United National Party (UNP) had some serious discussion with him of how to overcome the difficulties of joining the movement without being expelled from the parliament

He appealed to members of different political parties who felt strongly patriotic to come and join the movement to prevent the demise of a nation that existed for more than 2500 years.

Pointing out that while neighboring India was entering the space age defiantly the Venerable Thero said Sri Lanka was being made subject to a re-colonization plans of the imperialistic West .

He said today the country was being ruled by a set of imperialist agents who did not tolerate the smell of the Buddhist robe or the perspiring working masses of the country. He said the West only cut off the rope they tied the cow to a pole but the animal was still inside a barricade they erected to prevent it from walking away from the limitations the white man imposed .

He said the organization should start a national liberation struggle to liberate the nation from the foreign domination.

He strongly pointed out that the rulers of the nation had become auctioneers who were set to sell natural resource, lands, water etc. to the imperialistic West.

He said already the rulers were selling off ancient edifices like Sigiriya, , a world treasure like the rain forest of Sinharaja, and the historically important Galle Fort to foreigners. Venerable Gunawansa charged 25,000 acres of ancient land of Tantirimale were being sold to a Nordic company. He said starting from Negombo extending to Tangalle the precious and beautiful tropical sea shores of the nation were being sold to the white man.

He said in the world, in 2015 there would be a scarcity of water and water resources were planned to be sold to US companies. In the country a bottle of water costs more than a bottle of milk today, he charged.

The Venerable Gunawansa said the ruins of an ancient civilization were being systematically destroyed by the LTTE in the Northern and Eastern provinces. Pointing out that there were 276 places of archaeological and Buddhist interests in the Northern and Eastern provinces he said one by one they were being pulled down by the LTTE terrorists

Citing one example and quoting the ancient Bodhiwanshaya, the ancient chronicle of Bodhiyas in the island nation, the Venerable Thero said the LTTE had destroyed the Bodhi known as the Siriwardena Bodhiya at Seruwila, that was planted by the epic King Dutugemunu’s father ,King Kavantissa.. He said 27 such ancient trees had been destroyed.

He said the PNM was not organized to curry favor with any leadership of a political party but to truly save the land, culture and nation from foreign domination.

He said Air Lanka, and the insurance businesses were sold to foreigners. The ones who would order the nation what to do in the future would be those white men. He said this nation was built over the toil blood and tears of the indigenous people over 2500 years. The imperialist agents should be defeated so, that the future generations could once again become the inheritors of the proud legacy of their ancestors.
