KING FISHER AIRLINES TO FLY TO COLOMBO
By Walter Jayawardhana
India’s private air carrier the kingfisher Airlines announced that it will start daily flights to Colombo from September.
The airline said it would operate two daily flights from Chennai and Bangalore.
Since there is a steady increase of Indian tourists to Sri Lanka, the airline thinks there is a tremendous growth potential for the airline’s business.
King Fisher said that it is expecting to get the government’s approval to fly abroad on the rights of low cost carrier Air Deccan , which it has acquired recently.
According to Indian norms , an airline is allowed to fly abroad only after it completes five years of operations in domestic flights and when it has a fleet of at least 20 airplanes. Air Deccan completes its fifth year August 23 2008 and has a fleet of 42 new aircraft when combined with Kingfisher.
