SAMPANTHAN REQUESTED THE EU TO STOP AID TO SRI LANKA AND BRING PRESSURE TO GRANT ONE-PARTY RULE FOR TAMIL AREAS

May 07, 08.15 PM: R. Sampanthan, leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), the proxy political party of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) said that a delegation of his party had requested the European Union to bring pressure on the Sri Lanka government to grant an Interim Administration for the Northern and Eastern Provinces by stopping aid to Sri Lanka.
Sampanthan revealed about his request to the EU in an interview held with the Sandeshaya, the Sinhalese program of the BBC.
The Tamil Tiger proxy party is keeping close relations with the European Union with the help of Sri Lanka’s peace facilitator, Norway, it is widely believed in Colombo.
Earlier the LTTE said the rebel group was prepared to begin the stalled peace talks at any time desirable to the Sri Lanka government provided a self governing internal administration was granted to the LTTE to run Sri Lanka’s Northern and Eastern Provinces.
ording to Sri Lanka’s constitutional experts, under Sri Lanka’s Republican Constitution it does not allow such dual system of government to be operated simultaneously in two parts of the country.
But regardless, the LTTE demands a separate one-party Tamil administration for the island’s majority Tamil Northern Province and Eastern Province that has an ethnically mixed population of Sinhalese, Muslim and Tamils. The Muslims and the Sinhalese of the area categorically refuse to accept such an administration for the Province.
The LTTE and its proxy party the Tamil National Alliance demand a one –party polity and that would also create other constitutional problems since it would eliminate all Tamil and Muslim opposition parties.
It is not known how the European Union , which is against all kinds of Fascist dictatorships would support such a system of government. in one part of Sri Lanka, commentators questioned.
