On August 19, 2005, a large number of Sri Lankans gathered in front of the Federal Building to protest the escalation of terrorist acts including a recent spate of political killings in Sri Lanka by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealem, a vicious terrorist group. Capping the terrorist activities, a few days ago, Sri Lanka’s foreign minister, Mr. Lakshman Kadirgarmar was gunned down in cold blood. Mr. Kadirgarmar aged 73, an ethnic Tamil, was well liked by both peace loving Sinhalese and Tamils alike.
He was an eminent statesman and an outspoken critic of the LTTE. The LTTE has an affinity to eliminate anybody who speaks against them. Further, the LTTE has started kidnapping children for forcible recruitment as child soldiers, and it is a well known fact that the LTTE is famous for training and coaching suicide bombers.
Although the LTTE claims to be the sole representative of Tamil people, many Tamils dislike them; their sole representation is by the power of the gun, not by the power of the people.
The Sri Lankan protest in front of the Federal Building in Los Angeles is a calling on the international community to take action to stop the LTTE atrocities in Sri Lanka before they go any further.
The LTTE is known to thrive on foreign contributions collected in various manners and guises by their members in countries such as Canada, France, USA and UK.
The protesters carried posters and chanted slogans calling for the ban of Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) – United Kingdom banned this organization a few days ago - and to stop political killings, to stop forcible recruitment of children, to shun separatism so that everybody can live in peace and harmony.
They also denounced Norway’s one sided peace monitoring process which helps LTTE terrorist acts.
