July 08.12.30 PM:Increasing the long list of victims among Tamils of the violence unleashed by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) despite a ceasefire agreement signed with the administration of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe suspected LTTE assassins attempted to kill a close associate of the late Subathiran alias Robert , the deputy leader of the EPRLF, who was killed recently by a LTTE gunman.
Initial reports said, that a severely injured Selvin . a close associate of the dead leader was admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital with several injuries sustained in an attack by LTTE killers , July 8, at Gurunagar in Jaffna.
Police intelligence sources in Jaffna said the LTTE killer squads were roaming Sri Lanka government controlled areas, taking advantage of the permission granted by Ceasefire agreement allowing LTTE cadres to enter any part of Sri Lanka to participate in political activities. According to the agreement the political activists should enter such areas unarmed. But a leader of the political wing of Batticaloa was recently arrested after shooting a Sri Lanka Army Sergeant at close range. Following some arms twisting with the law that included an attempted jail break and kidnapping of two police constables of the Eravur Police the Attorney General agreed to let the murder suspect be released on bail recently.

Intelligence sources said the order was to kill all activists of the EPRLF, EPDP and PLOT to establish that the LTTE was the sole representative of the Tamil people.
The LTTE killers used swords in the attack police sources said. After being admitted by a group of pedestrians , who saw him bleeding on the road, Selvin was rushed into emergency surgery sources said.
