OPPOSITION ALLEGES THAT RANIL WICKREMESINGHE GOVT. IS JEOPARDISING SECURITY OF TRINCOMALEE BY MOLLYCODDLING LTTE

September 15.06.00 PM:Dr. Sarath Amunugama, spokesman for the People’s Alliance in a second press conference once again alleged that the Sri Lankan government of Ranil Wickremesinghe was putting the security of the Northern and Eastern Province and the strategic harbor of Trincomalee in jeopardy by being negligent of allowing the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to build 12 new military camps within the Sri Lanka government controlled area around the Trincomalee harbor.
He said the LTTE has newly built 22 new military camps after signing the ceasefire agreement around Trincomalee Harbor despite denials by the official spokesman of the army that there were no such camps.
Despite the denials Army Commander Balagalle has informed the government about the new camps and by being silent the Ranil Wickremesinghe government was putting the whole country in to jeopardy, Amunugama alleged.
According to reliable information he had received, Dr. Amunugama said, that not only Army Commander Balagalle but also the intelligence services of the Pacific Command of the US Army had informed the government about the newly built LTTE camps around Trincomalee.
Dr. Amunugama indicated that the Ranil Wickremesinghe government was doing false propaganda to conceal the true picture of the situation in Northern and Eastern Provinces.
Dr. Sarath Amunugama said the LTTE was planning to make Trincomalee the capital of a separate state and also stop all armaments, soldiers and other essential items going to Jaffna by occupying Trincomalee Harbor since it was Sri Lanka Army’s main point of transit to the North.
He said the Sri Lanka Navy has to watch while LTTE’s Soosai comes close to the Navy and makes military exercises.
