TAMIL TIGERS KIDNAP TWO POLICE CONSTABLES OF KUCHCHEVELI POLICE WITH THEIR MOTOR BIKE AND TAKE LAW INTO THEIR HANDS

By Walter Jayawardhana reporting from Los Angeles

September 20.08.40 AM: The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam commander Paduman informed that he needed a discussion with the Senior Superintendent of Police Upali Hewage before releasing two police constables who were kidnapped by armed cadres of the terrorist group while the policemen were on traffic duties in the government controlled area of the Trincomalee District.

The two policemen were abducted with their motorbike by the terrorists of the LTTE, September 17 , at Kamburupitiya, 20 kilometers North of Trincomalee about 4.30 p.m. while they were returning to their police station at Kuchcheveli from Nilaveli.

Police sources said reserve police constable Jayasiri Silva (17009) and reserve police constable H. Jaleel (25731) were stopped by uniformed and armed cadres of the LTTE on their way and abducted with their motorbike in retaliation of an arrest of LTTE cadres for riding a motor bike without a license by the Kuchcheveli Police. Among those arrested by the Police was a LTTE local leader named Muthukumaran alias Ihan, the Police said.

The LTTE leaders are expecting the Ranil Wickremesinghe government to consider them above law and ride motor bikes without any licenses unlike any other citizens of Sri Lanka.

A combined Police and Navy team at Vellor checkpoint at Nilaveli arrested two LTTE cadres without a license. On the instructions from the OIC Kuchchaveli the motorbike was detained by the Police and the riders were released and requested to produce a license the same day at the Police. The LTTE complained to the Norway backed Monitoring Mission office in Trincomalee.. The monitors visited the Vellor check point to clarify matters and asked those whose bike was detained by the Police to go to the Police and get the matter sorted out the next day.

But instead of producing the papers now they have kidnapped the constables with a state owned motorbike.

Paduman said he was coming to the SLMM office in Trincomalee to discuss the matter with SSP Upali Hewage. and Trincomalee monitor Abdel Burkhan
