OPPOSITION LEADER MAHINDA RAJAPAKSA ALLEGES THAT THE SOUTHERN MINISTERS ASSASSINATION IN COLOMBO HAS POLICE CID CONNECTIONS

May 26. 10.30 AM:Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa alleged assassins connected with the VIP’s of the Ranil Wickremesinghe government and the Criminal Investigations Department of the Sri Lanka Police had gunned down the popular Provincial Council member and Minister of the Southern Provincial Council M.K.Ranjith within the High Security Zone of the capital city of Colombo and just in front of the Criminal Investigations Department.
M.K.Ranjith who belonged to the opposition Sri Lanka Freedom Party, that holds power in the Southern Provincial Council was a close confidante of the Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Opposition Leader Rajapaksa said the assassination of the opposition politician in an area where hundreds of policemen were present made it scary for all opposition politicians in the country.
The Leader of opposition appealed to the Inspector General of Police Anandaraja not to employ a CID team to investigate in to the gruesome murder in the heart of the city and in broad daylight since they were highly suspect.
Rajapaksa said it was recently that the CID broke in to the late Ranjith’s house and even removed his licensed gun on the instigation of the ruling politicians of the UNP. Ranjith came to Colombo to sign some documents at the CID and in front of the Police Headquarters he was gunned down he alleged.
Mahinda Rajapaksa said his request not to appoint any CID officers to investigate in to the matter was granted by the IGP and three officers , Gamini Dissanayaka, Hettiarachchi and Thilakertne , officers outside the CID were appointed to the investigations team.
The opposition Leader openly alleged , the murder , which had its connections to the Southern Province politics although committed in Colombo has connections to some CID hierarchy and ruling UNP party VIP’s in the Southern Province.
Rajapaksa alleged the murder of the popular politician is connected to some murders committed at Suriyawewa and altogether the number of murders so far count up to between 30 and 40.
He said the recent murders at Puttalama were also similarly murders committed by UNP politicians.
He said since these murders were committed with the knowledge of the Police a grave situation had arisen about the safety of the opposition politicians in Sri Lanka.
