VETERAN JOURNALIST DEEPTHA LEELARATHNA RETURNS HOME FOR HIS FINAL REST

The ashes of veteran journalist Mr. Deeptha Leelarathna who died on February 23, 2006 in Southern California were interred at his hometown cemetery in Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka on May 1, after a brief Buddhist ceremony. It was his wish that he be laid to rest in his motherland said his wife Hassina Leelarathna who brought the ashes to Sri Lanka. Mr. Leelarathna launched Sri Lanka Express, the first Sri Lankan newspaper to be published in the United States, in 1981, and continued working with the paper until his death.
