Your Excellency,

We, the Sri Lankan community in Los Angeles, California, are jubilant at the successful completion of the largest and an unimaginable humanitarian task ever undertaken anywhere in the world, by our heroic armed forces, leading to the defeat of terrorism in our motherland, Sri Lanka.

We, join the Sri Lankans throughout the globe in celebrating the end of thirty years of tyranny mounted by the world’s most brutal terrorist force, while sending our warmest congratulations and heartfelt thanks to our heroic armed forces and to our astute political leadership.

The darkest days in our recent history during which our nation was held at ransom by a band of separatist terrorists are over. The country’s citizens, its leaders and intellectuals were ruthlessly assassinated and the national wealth robbed and plundered at will with impunity, to make a megalomaniac’s separatist dream come true. A generation of citizens lived in fear and its rulers governed in trepidation.

We salute your Excellency, Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksha, Commanders in Chief of the Sri Lankan Security forces for the courageous and astute manner of governance in combating the world’s deadliest terror group. Waves of terror attacks from within and waves of unfriendly international diplomatic initiatives by a mini band of “so called friendly” colonial elements from outside, were effectively nullified by our political and military leadership.

Our tributes are also to the general public of Sri Lanka for the long wait and perseverance, sacrificing their essential comforts, to witness a permanent victory over terrorism.

Even as we celebrate this great moment in our nation’s history, we foresee the difficult and treacherous path ahead as Sri Lanka tries to heal and rebuild itself.

We “The Sri Lankan Patriots” in Los Angeles California will support and stand by all wholesome and patriotic initiations that lead to a united and unitary Sri Lanka, where all communities will have equal opportunities to prosper and further their livelihoods.
